Title and description: Scars (Victory Series)

Bianca Laughlin was an average college student when she was recruited for the US government’s most secretive counterterrorist agency. Now, eight years later, she is finally able to integrate back into civilian life. Moving back to her hometown with her assistant, Michael Kent, at her side seems easy enough. But when her romantic life is forced to the side by her ever demanding job, Bianca is forced to make the toughest choice of her life.

Melissa’s book has just recently been released, and she’s expecting the printed version any day now. Please show this new novelist support and visit her blog (DO NOT GO GENTLE INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT) and check out Scars. I’ll be adding it to my “To read” list on Good Reads soon.

Writers, Amazon has announced the next Breakthrough Novel contest

This has become a pretty big deal. Starting Jan 23 you can submit your novel for competition for the 2012 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. There are two categories, one for general fiction and one for YA. Details can be found at the below link. Grand prize for both categories is a publishing deal with Penguin and a pretty nice advance ($15,000).

I’ll be submitting my first manuscript CHASING AFTER VANITY in the general fiction category. Anyone else thinking about entering?

In many cases when a reader puts a story aside because it ‘got boring,’ the boredom arose because the writer grew enchanted with his powers of description and lost sight of his priority, which is to keep the ball rolling.

Call for Authors to highlight in the Sojourner Mountain Author Snapshots

As 2011 winds down and 2012 steps to the plate, I’m looking for authors to highlight on my creative writing blog Sojourner Mountain. Whether you’re an already published author with a new book, or an aspiring writer still working to finish that work in progress, I’d love to hear from you. I’ve met a number of fascinating writers through the Author Snapshot, so I’m excited to get the chance to feature more,

This is how it works: every Wednesday I’ll create a blog post featuring an author on Sojourner Mountain. Throughout the day I’ll also promote on Twitter, and highlight on my Facebook author page.

If you’re interested, please drop by Sojourner Mountain. On the left hand side are both “Ask” and “Submit Comments” buttons.  Click on either, and leave me the following information:

If you’d like to include an image as well (like a draft book cover, or your author picture) you can submit it as well. You’ll need to do this through the “Submit Comments” button, and insert the picture.

That’s it! I hope to hear from you.

Oh, and Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus: 1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect?

Where no one has gone before.
