A nice piece of flash fiction by ramblingfellowship in response to Visual Writing Prompt 72 Secret Garden. Nestled inside of urban sprawl is this tiny oasis of calm.  Although most people could stand to partake of this garden’s serenity, most don’t know about it, leaving it to the lucky few who have stumbled across it.  Write about someone who stumbles across this secret place, and their response to suddenly stepping away from the manic world.:

This was the only place he felt safe and human anymore. Here, in his own personal oasis, could escape away from the screeching noises, the chemical smells and fake existence of the concrete urban landscape that was his prison. Nestled against the bows of ageing trees, with grass and dirt beneath his bare feet, he felt peace and tranquility. This was his secret, his paradise and his release from the torment of daily life.

At night he would sit under those tree’s with his naked feet dipped into the clear, cool water of the stream, and just listen. If he tried hard enough, concentrating all his thought, the bustling sounds of the city would fade away to be replaced with Nature’s own song. Looking upwards he could peel away the light pollution poisoning the sky and see clearly the expanse of the stars and their mighty wonder, and the infinities of the universe.

Today’s #WW Author Snapshot comes from the blog PINK ABSINTHE

Work in Progress: Fiction.

Title and description: “Trouble With Phaedra” – Psychological spooky witch meets “Skins”-esque characters in a tightly wrapped ‘what-the-f***?’ series of events.

When do you plan on finishing this work? Working on it since the summer, though the idea’s been festering for a few months! I want to take a little break and re-approach it in a few weeks with a fresh mind, so hopefully be done by Sept.

This author actually has two blogs, one of which he uses to do book, movie, and music reviews.  From his “Some Guy With a Pen” blog, you can learn about his impressive writing history to date.  The site is very well done, and definitely worth your time if you’re a fellow writer. Please take a look, follow, and support this author!

You can view this profile and other Author Snapshots at the New Authors link on the left of the Sojourner Mountain page.

If you’d like to be featured with an Author Snapshot, just send me a message through the Submit button. I’d love to feature you!

wordpainting:

Since mid-March of this year, I have been sending query letters to agents all over the country (and parts of Europe) in hopes to get representation for my first novel. I’ve sent around 50 query letters and have received two positive responses. I have posted here the most promising response, which ended as a bust. However, they provided me with enough feed back and suggestions to make me go back and rework certain parts of the novel. These letter at least give me hope that my work has potential. I just need to find the right agent for it.

I am not at liberty to publish on my blog the names, e-mail addresses, and address of this literary agency. So, I have either marked those through (as you can see) or simply cut them out.

I’m so glad you shared this.  I started sending out query letters last week – to date I’ve only sent out five – and I plan on doing something similar to this as responses start to come back.  There are definite lessons to draw from this kind of feedback.

Thanks again!
